The moment everyone has been waiting for: the end of Scorpio season! Venus retrograde is officially over. We’re finally releasing some of that mysterious energy from behind the closed doors of the dark, secretive Scorpion. Let us all rejoice in a collective sigh of relief! From November 22 - December 21, we’re riding into the exciting unknown on the back of the adventurous, gregarious Centaur. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but it fuels the spirit of Sagittarius who yearns to explore both the world we can see and the world we cannot. Driven by justice and truth, Sagittarius can be quite philosophical, outspoken, and even argumentative at times, but their progressive push toward change, and zest for life is infectious. Full of hot air indeed, this Fire sign is humorous, overconfident, and a risk-taker so the next month should be nothing short of an adventure. Just remember, Sagittarius is here for a good time - not a long time - so let go and let flow.
With Venus staying in her lane, your skin will be cleared, your pockets lined, and your bed warmed yet again. Of course, forever-bachelor Sagittarius is commitment’s worst enemy so do not expect to find your soulmate for life, maybe just your soulmate for right now. We’re not completely in the clear though - that bitch Mercury has decided she wants to show out exactly as we exit Venus retrograde. Sagittarius energy will make us feel more empowered to move quickly and speak candidly, but with Mercury - the planet of communication, intellect, and plans - out of whack, speaking too much and not listening enough will be a huge challenge this season. Sagittarius is known for speaking up when they spot something unjust, or just plain stupid - we could all take notes from Sag Queen Chrissy Teigen, who comes for T***p’s neck on Twitter every day. I know it feels like you’re doing the right thing, but beware of your quick tongue! There will be information you are not privy to, and perspectives you are unaware of; you may end up being the hypocrite. Fall back, observe, and listen. The curiosity of the Archer will flow through us for the next month, and the truths we seek will be spoken all around us. The power of Sagittarian wisdom is found when we shut up long enough to hear what we’ve been listening for.
Go to a new coffee shop, try a new restaurant, work in a new space. Hedonist Sagittarius loves indulging in exotic cuisine, discovering fine natural wines, and luxuriating in Russian bathhouses. Adventure doesn’t always require a 3-month backpacking trip around the world, and this Sag szn, it probably shouldn’t! Sagittarius is practically synonymous with “wanderlust”, but Mercury retrograde could create some serious miscommunications and travel delays. We’re getting into the holidays which might include some compulsory travel for those of us who live away from home. Be mindful of possible hiccups en route to any destination, and plan to be at your terminal 2 hours in advance like your mom does just in case. The only way to make it through a Mercury RX is to expect the worst and find some humor in the mess. Something to remember: It ain’t that serious. What is life but a comedy of errors? Sagittarius is a light and playful energy that reminds us to not take ourselves too seriously; perhaps the true adventure this month is letting go of control and seeing where life takes you.
1. Drive to the beach!
For those of us who live on or near the coast, we tend to neglect the sand and seas during this time of the year, but even if it’s cold where you live, there might be value to bundling up and taking a short trip out to watch the waves dance across the horizon. The vastness of the ocean and the openness of the empty beaches can give outdoorsy Sag’s that feeling of freedom and escape that we crave. Head out there with your favorite person to discuss philosophy or politics, as you may find the atmosphere especially conducive to conversation. Maybe you should spend some time with your own thoughts. If you’ve got mountains, lakes, or hiking trails nearby, it can be a great alternative.
2. Throw a themed party!
Bring the magic of a place you’d love to visit right to your home with a themed party. Make the decorations by hand to save money and enlist in some help from friends so you can actually finish them and not procrastinate! Sag’s love learning about other cultures and languages, so try your hand at a celebration that showcases all you want to discover about Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, Oktoberfest in Germany (for a night you totally won’t remember), or the Chinese Lantern Festival. Just remember to be mindful of cultural appropriation. Also, please try not to get into an argument using the facts you learned from your Google search.
3. Travel to a neighboring state!
It may not be quite as exciting as adding some stamps to your passport, but the point is to get away from what’s familiar, break out of your routine, and learn something new! It might be an hour or two out of your way, but there’s bound to be a restaurant you haven’t tried or a local landmark in a place nearby that you’ve overlooked. Take selfies and plan activities according to a guide book like you would if you were abroad. Talk to the locals and allow yourself to get lost if you’re down for the full experience. Don’t worry, an archer will always end up finding the right direction.
4. Stay in a hotel for a night!
This might require some more money, especially if you’re a New Yorker like me, but if you go in on a room with your friends it can be a lot more affordable. Just the feeling of packing a bag and spending a night away from home could be a great way to help you exhale, and release the constriction of a mundane routine. We know you Sag’s, you hate feeling stuck, and nothing makes you feel more stuck than a 9-5, or tedious hourly job you’re working to fund your next adventure. Here’s a reminder that you’re doing great, and you deserve a break. Take one! Although, you’ll probably hate having to wake up early for checkout.
5. Watch some foreign films!
Sagittarius is one of the more curious signs of the zodiac, so we are probably more willing to watch movies in an unfamiliar language with subtitles. Our creativity allows us to easily transport ourselves through books and movies, and the language barrier will add to the experience. Immerse yourself into another world for a mental escape and a means of catharsis. It may not be the most interactive activity for you but if life is wild at the moment (and not in the way that you enjoy), it may be the easiest thing you can do to fulfill your lust for more worldly stimulation. Since you’re not usually one to do things half-assed, order some food from the country of origin, and indulge yourself in a Netflix session fit for your inquisitive and curious nature.
We love and need change. This may make us seem a bit fickle, but overall we are adaptive and capable of amazing growth. Being able to handle change is vital in life, and a perfect trait to have when dealing with a new moon from the previous season. We welcome change and the adventures that come with it. A trait less observed of Sagittarius is how intuitive we are; we sense things before they happen. This may be due to the anticipation for change, or it could simply be that we are magical – I choose to believe the latter.
We are always willing to give what we can; especially when it comes to the people we love. We have big hearts, and are good intentioned per the humanitarian in us. I am a bit of a hopeless romantic, and will give the world to the person who captivates my attention the most. As generous with our emotional labor as our resources, I always find people venting and opening up to me casually just because they feel comfortable doing so.
Once I am passionate about something, I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm for it. My creativity comes to me in various forms and energizes me when I’m lacking motivation, whether it’s makeup, fashion, writing, drawing or even attempting to make music. I feel most like myself which I am being creative and focusing my passion into something productive – like writing this piece!
Whether I’m struggling with mental health, or feeling defeated because of the terrible social climate, the Sagittarius inclination to find the silver-lining and humor in life is special. This isn’t to say that we’re annoying trolls who don’t know how to be sensitive to serious subjects. We may be tactless on occasion, but we can also be very diplomatic and our intent is never to step on anyone’s toes.
but this Sagittarius quality in a constructive form is not easily found in most. If I’m telling you something that you don’t want to hear, I care enough to tell you something others would shy away from. Nobody needs a bunch of yes-men tailing behind them, supporting their possibly damaging decisions. They need someone there to help them gain some insight, I don’t mind being that person.
